01 Nov., 2010 Shanghai/Kunming
You’ll fly to Kunming, a city that is distinctively diverse and exotic, its population blended with 25 alternative tribes and minority cultures. Then visit the Stone Forest in Lunan Yi Nationality Autonomous County. It covers an area of 400 square kilometres and includes both large and small stone forests, boasting many beautiful scenes. An old local saying says ‘If you have visited Kunming without seeing the Stone Forest, you have wasted your time.(L/D)
02 Nov., 2010 Kunming/Lijiang
Take a morning flight to Lijiang, which is noted for its well-preserved ancient structures. Lijiang is hailed as the cradle of early life, harbouring its prolific history of primitive civilization. You will visit the Old Town of Lijiang, a well-preserved old city of ethnic minorities with a diverse culture. It is a central town of the Lijiang Autonomous County of the Naxi Ethnic Minority in Yunnan Province. Later you’ll move on to visit Yufung temple as well as the ancient cliff drawing. Today’s tour will end with an optional tour to the Naxi tribe encampment for a cultural show. (B/L/D)

A full-day excursion is planned for today, to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, a sanctuary for rare animals and wild plants. One fourth of all plant species in China can be found here and 20 primeval forest communities shelter a huge range of trees and animals, which are protected by the state. The 13 peaks, at altitudes of at least 4,000 meters, are covered by snow all year round and the mountain is called the ‘Natural Glacier Museum’ as it displays many types of glacier.(B/L/D)
04 Nov., 2010 Lijiang/Hutiao Gorge/Shangri-La (Zhongdian)
Today you’ll travel to Zhongdian, the picturesque setting believed to be the inspiration of the mythical Shangri-La described in James Hilton’s novel, The Lost Horizon. En route, you’ll view the ‘First Bend’ of the Yangtze River at Shigu and the astounding Hutiao (Tiger Leap) Gorge on the Jinsha River, known as one of the deepest gorges in the world. (B/L/D)
05 Nov., 2010 Shangri-la
Enjoy a full day excursion in Shangri-La. Today’s sightseeing includes Gedan Songzanlin Monastery, also known as Guihua Monastery, which is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan province, as well as one of the 13 largest lamaseries in the Kangzang region. Then you’ll visit the Bitahai Lake. Famed as pearl in the highlands the lake is surrounded by wooded mountains. After dinner, there is an optional tour to enjoy a local performance. (B/L/D)
